Bad Brains Partners with Trust Records for Comprehensive Rights Deal

Trust Records Strikes a Major Deal with Bad Brains

Trust Records, co-founded by Matt Pincus and Joe Nelson in 2020, is making waves in the music industry with a significant partnership with the legendary punk band Bad Brains. This agreement marks a crucial step for the label, which focuses on promoting, preserving, and protecting classic punk and hardcore music.

The new deal encompasses a wide range of intellectual property related to Bad Brains, including their publishing rights, master recordings, trademark, and visual IP. Additionally, Trust Records will manage the administration and distribution of much of the band’s catalog, which features their influential titles. Among these are their self-titled debut album, along with Rock For Light, I Against I, and Quickness.

Bad Brains, which formed in 1978 in Washington, D.C., is celebrated for its unique blend of hardcore punk and reggae, creating a sound that has had a lasting impact on many contemporary artists, including Rage Against The Machine, Metallica, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their innovations in music have made them a cornerstone of the punk genre.

Trust Records aims to ensure that Bad Brains’ music remains accessible for future generations. In a recent statement, Pincus expressed his profound respect for the band, stating that partnering with them is a high honor. He noted the importance of keeping the spirit of punk alive, especially as the industry transitions into the streaming age.

Pincus has a history of successful ventures in the music business, having previously founded SONGS Music Publishing, which represented artists like The Weeknd and Lorde. After selling the company for approximately $160 million, he launched MUSIC, an investment firm focused on music technology and indie labels. Trust Records is another extension of Pincus’s commitment to championing punk music.

As part of the new partnership, an Artist Advisory Board has been established, with Bad Brains’ bassist Darryl Jenifer contributing to the creative direction of Trust Records. Jenifer shared his enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing the shared vision of keeping Bad Brains’ legacy alive.

Joe Nelson, co-founder of Trust Records, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the band’s remarkable influence on global culture. He expressed excitement about the partnership and the opportunity to grow Bad Brains’ fan base worldwide.

Trust Records also boasts a catalog that includes deluxe versions of classic albums and reissues from other notable punk bands. This latest deal with Bad Brains further solidifies Trust Records’ position as a key player in maintaining the punk music legacy while adapting to the evolving landscape of the music industry.
