Cedrick ‘Swab’ Cotton Stabbed to Death in Houston

Cedrick “Swab” Cotton, a former member of the popular 90s R&B group Ideal, was stabbed to death in broad daylight Tuesday (February 9) at a Food Mart in Southwest Houston. He was 46.

Cotton’s mother, Delores Floyd, said her son was a frequent customer at the Fondren Food Mart. She explained to Houston’s ABC13: “He’d ride his little bike, go there, get a quick cigarette. The next thing I know, I get this call and I heard people … ‘He comes here every day. He doesn’t bother anybody. He’s a good guy.”

After word of the stabbing spread, crowds of people flocked to Fondren Food Mart to see if they knew the victim. Cotton’s uncle, William King, was among them.

“I saw him just lying there. I couldn’t do nothing but just cry last night,” King told ABC13.

As investigators try to piece together what happened, Floyd is pleading for the suspect to surrender.

“Whoever did this, turn yourself in. You know, it’s time out for this foolishness. Killing people is not the right thing to do,” said.

Cotton played football at Houston’s Lamar High School before moving to California and launching “Ideal” in 1999 alongside his brother, Maverick “Mav” Cotton, their cousin Wayne “PZ” Perry, and high school friend Jay “J-Dante” Green. The quartet is best known for their singles “Creep Inn,” “Get Gone” and “Whatever.”

“They were on “Soul Train,” “Donnie and Marie Show,” “The Parkers,” Floyd said.
