Singer Jesse Powell Has Died

    Talented Jesse Powell has . He was 51. His sister Tamara Powell posted the singer’s passing on and and stated he died peacefully.

    Powell had success in the 90s with like “You” and “Gloria.” Jesse was from Gary Indiana and he and his sisters, Trina and Tamara, who eventually had their own group, sang together in local shows in the late 80s and early 90s.

    Jesse got the attention of the late Louis Silas who signed Jesse to his MCA imprint Silas Records. Powell’s first album and “All Need” written by the late Sam Salter and Laney Steward had moderate success.

    Powell went on to record a couple more for MCA and Rivera records and his biggest hit was the ballad “You” which showcased his 4-octave range which was originally supposed to be on his first album but was moved to his second album “Bout It.”

    The single went to number two on the Billboard R&B Chart and Number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it was his biggest hit. He retired from the around 2003. Powell died at his home from cardiac arrest.
