Whatever Happened to Gerry Woo?

When I first started working in radio in Atlanta in the mid to late 80s I always landed on the Quiet Storm shift. I remember this was one of the most requested songs “Help Yourself” by a phenominal Asian kid named Gerry Woo who grew up in Detroit and he was a huge fan of Motwon. He was signed to Polydor records.

He did one album then dissapeared from the industry. It was probably really hard to market him in those days to black radio. So unfortunate.

He changed his name to Harlem Lee and is still singing according to a videos we found of him on YouTube. This one is from 2019. On the bottom he is singing Rachelle Ferrell, “Till You Come back to me.” https://www.youtube.com/watch-v=am9WtxcmJ0Ehttps://www.youtube.com/watch-v=OI8KAxnxIWAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch-v=ytlz-I9DNbo
