The newest Kentucky State University royalty is announced

The newest Miss and Mister Kentucky State University were recently announced after royal elections.

Yasmine Harper, a senior from Lambert, Mississippi, and Cameron Galloway, a senior from Paducah, are the newest queen and king at the College on the Hill.

Harper is a psychology and political science double major. Harper’s activities and organizations include serving as an active member of the United States Army Reserves, Phi Theta Kappa Collegiate Honor Society, LEAD 1886 Leadership Academy, chaplain and inspirational officer of Breaking the Cycle, Student Support Services, a member of the Kentucky State University cheerleading team and Driving Our Peer Education.

Outside of school, Harper teaches kindergarten and first grade Bible study with Growth Point Church and is also the founder of Quitman County Forward, an initiative created to engage and motivate youth socially and politically in the rural Delta area of Mississippi.

“Kentucky State University has proven many times over to be an oasis of hope, family, and success, and that’s the legacy I wish to keep alive,” said Harper.

Galloway is a social work major with a minor in criminal justice. Galloway’s activities include charter membership of Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Leadership Society, a member of Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society, Sports of Social Justice Civic Leader, a 2020-21 Newman Civic Fellow, a Thurgood Marshall College Fund Student Ambassador and Leadership Institute Scholar. Galloway is also enlisted in the United States Army and plans to commission in the spring. Galloway has also received all-conference honors for the track and field and cross country teams, as well as academic honors.

Galloway was also invited to testify in front of the Kentucky legislature to speak at a signing ceremony for a foster youth Bill of Rights.

“I feel blessed to represent the Kentucky State University family — and with the challenges that I have endured in my life, I can show my fellow Thorobreds that because this University encourages you to embrace your story, you can overcome any obstacles and use it as a light for others,” Galloway said.
