BMI entertainer Russell Dickerson brought the music industry together inside BMI’s Nashville lobby on April 15 to celebrate his sixth career and multi-week chart topper, “Happen to Me.”
The Triple Tigers artist was joined by his co-writers Chase McGill, Chris LaCorte, and producer Josh Kerr, marking a full-circle moment for the team behind the record. Recognition was also given to Robert Hazard, writer of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” along with Jessie Jo Dillon, as contributors connected to the song’s foundation and success.

The track continues to gain momentum as a genre-crossing RIAA platinum-certified hit and has recently earned an American Music Award nomination for Best Country Song. That level of reach has pushed the record well beyond traditional country boundaries.
Inside the event, the atmosphere leaned more celebration than ceremony. Guests were served Cowboy Cannolis and given access to Russellmania Tour merchandise, tied to Dickerson’s upcoming run of amphitheater dates and the largest venues he has headlined to date.
“Happen to Me” has now surpassed 344 million streams. The single also charted on the Billboard Hot 100, along with placements on the Hot AC and Top 40 charts, reinforcing its crossover appeal.
Following that momentum, Dickerson’s next single, “Worth Your Wild,” continues to build on the same lane. The record also serves as the title track from his latest EP, positioning the project as a continuation rather than a reset.
The event itself was hosted by BMI’s Mason Hunter and sponsored by Studio Bank. During the program, Ron Cox presented a donation on behalf of Dickerson and the songwriting team in support of Cul2vate.
Green River Whiskey, now the official whiskey sponsor of BMI No. One parties, closed out the moment by gifting Dickerson and his collaborators a commemorative bottle of single barrel bourbon tied to the song’s success.
