U.S. Music Streaming Hits 112M Subscribers in 2025

The landscape of music streaming in the United States continues to evolve, with recent findings from MusicWatch revealing that the number of paid subscribers has reached an impressive 112 million in 2025. This figure represents a notable increase from 104 million in 2024, highlighting that, despite rising subscription costs and a saturated market, many Americans consider their music streaming services an essential part of their lives.

Paid on-demand services such as Spotify Premium, Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, YouTube Premium, Tidal, and Pandora Premium are included in this count. However, it’s important to note that paid non-interactive services, including radio platforms like Pandora Plus, as well as Sirius satellite radio and Amazon Prime users who access music, are not factored into this estimate.

According to the MusicWatch report, the subscriber base has expanded by 8 million year-over-year, indicating that there is still significant potential for growth among major services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Interestingly, the demographic driving this growth is shifting. While younger generations such as Gen Z and Millennials were the initial adopters of streaming services, the 45+ age group is increasingly embracing paid on-demand options, moving away from traditional formats and radio.

Despite numerous price increases from major digital service providers (DSPs) over the past two years, subscriber churn remains low. Many users cite the extensive music catalog available at their fingertips as a compelling reason to maintain their subscriptions. Additionally, YouTube Music is gaining traction, particularly among younger, diverse audiences who appreciate the blend of video and audio content.

For artists and industry professionals, these statistics present both opportunities and challenges. The growing number of subscribers indicates a larger pool of royalty revenue, yet the influx of older listeners into the streaming space suggests that legacy genres may experience a resurgence in popularity. As such, it may be time for marketers to reconsider their strategies to engage with this demographic.

In conclusion, music has transcended mere luxury for 112 million Americans, becoming an integral part of their monthly expenses. As the streaming market matures, the industry’s focus may shift from merely acquiring new users to enhancing average revenue per user (ARPU) through specialized tiers and bundled offerings.
