AI Music: Apple Music Launches New Transparency Initiative

The rise of AI-generated music has surged dramatically in recent months, prompting streaming platforms to innovate their approaches to content management. With platforms like Suno and Udio enabling users to create millions of tracks, the rapid growth has led to significant debates surrounding copyright and the authenticity of music.

According to a report from Billboard, Suno is producing an astonishing 7 million tracks daily, which translates to generating Spotify’s entire catalog every two weeks. The platform boasts 2 million paid subscribers and over 100 million users, including those on its free version, all contributing to this unprecedented output.

In a similar vein, Deezer has reported a staggering increase in AI-generated uploads, with more than 60,000 tracks being added daily as of January 2026. This figure represents a sixfold increase from the previous year, with synthetic content now making up approximately 39% of all uploads on the platform. Since 2025, Deezer’s detection system has flagged over 13.4 million AI tracks, highlighting the urgent need for effective monitoring.

Deezer’s CEO, Alexis Lanternier, emphasized the platform’s commitment to tackling fraudulent uploads, noting that a significant portion of AI-generated music is uploaded with deceptive intentions. In contrast, Spotify has opted for stricter policies, removing tracks that impersonate artists and filtering out spam, while also requiring disclosure of AI usage in credits.

In response to the evolving landscape, Apple Music has introduced a new framework as of March 4, focusing on transparency rather than strict enforcement. The platform’s Transparency Tags allow record labels and distributors to indicate AI usage across various elements, including artwork and composition. While Apple does not currently verify compliance, the initiative aims to empower the music industry with the necessary data to formulate effective policies regarding AI.

Apple’s approach contrasts sharply with Deezer’s technical enforcement, underscoring the industry’s broader challenge: finding a balance between transparency, protecting artist rights, and managing the influx of AI-generated content.
