WJMZ Breaks Format to Honor Natalie Cole

How do you truly honor a legend? WJMZ in Greenville, SC did it by breaking format and letting their listeners know how important Natalie Cole is to the culture. When the news broke that Natalie Cole had passed on New Year’s Eve, WJMZ in Greenville, SC wasted no time to break the news to their listeners & pay tribute to the late great daughter of Nat King Cole.

Program Director, Elroy Smith teamed up with Midday Show Host Kelly Mac to create a special 4 hour segment where listeners called in to request their favorite songs by Natalie & share their fondest memories of her as well. Kelly Mac said; “originally we were slated to be voice tracked because it was a holiday but when Elroy called me I didn’t hesitate.” “This is the kind of radio programming that made me fall in love with radio! Live, local, realtime interactive radio full of relatable content & phone calls from the audience.”The tribute was even covered on FOX Carolina news.
