TikTok has launched a beta version of its Listening Party feature, enabling a seamless connection between social interaction and full-track streaming through Apple Music. This new tool is designed to enhance community engagement for independent artists, music marketers, and record labels by facilitating real-time, synchronized listening sessions. Artists can now host events where fans can stream entire albums while engaging in live chats, creating a more immersive experience.
To utilize the Listening Party feature, artists must first become verified on TikTok. This involves claiming their TikTok Artist Profile and linking their music catalog through the Artist Hub. Currently, the feature is available exclusively on the iOS version of the TikTok app.
Once verified, artists can initiate a Listening Party by linking their Apple Music account within the app and selecting the Listening Party option from their music tab. During the session, artists can engage with fans through real-time chat, share insights about their music, and create interactive challenges to enhance the experience.
It is important for artists to communicate to their fans that only those with an active Apple Music subscription will have access to full-length tracks during the Listening Party. Non-subscribers can still participate in the chat but will only hear 30-second previews. Additionally, fans can save tracks to their personal Apple Music libraries directly from the event.
This integration of TikTok’s Listening Party with Apple Music addresses the ongoing challenge of music discovery by keeping fans engaged within the platform while allowing them to explore an artist’s complete body of work. Artists are encouraged to monitor their performance metrics through Apple Music for Artists to assess the long-term impact of these listening events.
