Most Underrated Black Female Singers

0
About a decade ago, my colleague Kevin Ross compiled a list of Black female singers that he felt were underrated and under-appreciated in comparison to their talents. He invited me to take a crack at compiling such a Top 10 as we near the end of 2019. What follows is a list of female singers I consider talented and accomplished but have yet to reach the full gravitas of what I believe their talents so richly deserve.1. Jackie MooreI begin my list with a woman we sadly lost on November 8.

DARF: Classic and Powerful Black Songs about Civil Rights

Music is the AnswerThis year has been an incredible challenge to not just the world but for Black people in particular and it's troublesome to realize it's only halfway through? There was a time that the black church was the place that we could depend on during divisive, challenging, and trying times like these but since people need the CHURCH's financial resources the mega-behemoths have vanished in the thin air a way down yonder in the distance leaving us with the sound of luxury vehicles driving away and our financial frustration coupled with the hollow echos of church crickets.

This Tragedy Shouldn’t Happen to Radio Pros Today

Truly one of the saddest stories we've ever written in Digital and Radio Facts and a lesson to radio DJs and entertainment pros to never leave your fate in the hands of others with the advent of technology. For Black radio djs, the pay has always been less and the tragedies numerious. Hopefully, Laverne's story is the teacher instread of the lesson. Digital and A former St. Louis Radio DJ was forced to eat the peanuts she didn't sell that was leftover at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Posting Videos of White Victims of Police Brutality Not Related for Many Blacks

0
An absolute disturbing and shocking video of a white male victim, Daniel Shaver, being murdered by a police officer in Meza, AZ in 2016 in what appears to be an extremely aggressive and extremely forceful arrest at a hotel where the commands that former officer Philip “Mitch” Brailsford was giving Shaver were almost identical to playing some sort of body contortion game that was impossible to do.

BUSINESS: Is Entercom about to sell Urban Stations to iHeart?

0
Looking at the Atlanta market, it would appear the writing is on the wall. iHeart, without question the most progressive radio media corporation in the industry, has one hip hop presence in Atlanta but no AC station and no leading Black stations in Atlanta or DC. The only iHeart stations in the market are The Bull, Power 96.1, Z105.7, 105.3 The Beat (hip hop), 94.9 The Lake and now BIN the all-Black news information network that just popped up from nowhere and appears to be the odd man out on WGST which just flipped last week. Atlanta has the most Black radio stations in the industry and iHeart has just one presence there which is a hip hop station. The biggest most innovative media corporation not in a market with a huge black population? I would bet they have their eye on the behemoth Black station in the market owned by Entercom, V-103, in addition, WAOK is wide open to be a 24-hour Black news station too depending on how they run it. Finally, iHeart is looking for news people in the Atlanta market. Your thoughts?

Colin Kaepernick and Disney Partner To Tell Stories of Black and Brown People

RIVERDALE, GA - NOVEMBER 16: Colin Kaepernick looks on during his NFL workout held at Charles R Drew high school on November 16, 2019 in Riverdale, Georgia. (Photo by Carmen Mandato/Getty Images)A couple of days after Colin Kaepernick denounced the 4th of July as a celebration of white supremacy and that he is looking forward to liberation for all; his media production company RA Vision Media and Disney announce their partnership. This deal will bring us scripted and unscripted stories that will deal with race, social injustice and working for equity. This will also give his company a chance to showcase directors and producers of color. Everything his company produces will be available on all of Disney’s platforms like ESPN and Hulu. Kaepernick is excited about the historic partnership and having the chance to elevate Black and Brown creators.ESPN films is also developing a docuseries chronicling Kaepernick’s time as QB of the San Francisco 49ers and as a civil rights activist. One of the producers on the project will be former ESPN and The Undefeated employee Jemele Hill, who left the sports entertainment giant when both sides decided it was best to separate. After the separation, many new doors began to open for Hill including this opportunity to tell Kaepernick’s story, which has her excited. As we all know, Kaepernick has been exiled from the NFL since 2016 after he began kneeling to protest police brutality and racial inequality. He was told to stop disrespecting the flag although after speaking with veterans he was told the best way to protest and be respectful to the military is to kneel, but people still had a problem with it and ignored the purpose of the protest. Here we are in 2020 still protesting police brutality and racial inequality and suddenly the NFL understands. Following the protests after the murder of George Floyd, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell apologized to players for not listening to their concerns.Well people are now listening and now is the time to tell stories representing the often ignored Black and Brown people. The hope is that what Kaepernick’s company produces from this partnership will educate, enlighten and entertain.

Has the End of the Historic and Tragic 'Karen' Era Begun? (video)

0
We are bearing witness to what mgiht be the end of the 'Karen' era thanks to legislation introduced by New York's Gov Cuomo. Amy Cooper, the white woman who was walking her dog in Central Park and who refused to leash her dog after being asked by a black male bird watcher by the name of Christian Cooper threatened to call in the false police report weaponizing her priveledge in the process and she did just that. What's more tragic about the era of 'Karen' is that it's actually not new. There are countless times that it was used by racists white women to prosecute black men for crimes that even they themselves committed even killing their own children like Susan Smith who is actually up for parole in 4 years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRmqemVDoKIThe list is way to long to mention here but it is a law that other states should incorporate.
