Media Research Leader Radha Subramanyam Passes Away at 55

Another giant in media research has left us. Radha Subramanyam, a prominent figure in analytics, has succumbed to cancer.

Radha Subramanyam, a respected leader in the media research and analytics arena, passed away on January 5 at the age of 55. Her contributions to the industry have garnered widespread respect and admiration, particularly during her tenure at CBS Corporation, where she served as Chief Research and Analytics Officer since 2019. Subramanyam was known for her keen insights and strategic oversight in audience measurement, market research, and advertising analytics.

Before her significant role at CBS, Subramanyam was the President of Insights, Research, and Data Analytics at iHeartMedia, where she worked from March 2012 until her transition to CBS in late 2017. During her time at iHeartMedia, she was pivotal in establishing the company’s research framework, which helped shape their sales and marketing strategies.

Subramanyam’s career also included leadership positions at The Nielsen Company, where she served as Senior Vice President of Insights, Research, and Analytics from January 2011 to March 2012. Her extensive experience encompassed roles at major companies such as Yahoo!, MTV Networks, Comedy Central, and NBCUniversal, showcasing her versatility and deep understanding of media dynamics.

Her exceptional work did not go unnoticed; she was recognized by Streamline Publishing’s Radio Ink as one of the Most Influential Women in Radio on multiple occasions from 2013 to 2016, a testament to her impact in the field. Not only was she influential in research, but Subramanyam also held academic credentials, with a Ph.D. in Radio-TV-Film from Northwestern University. Her teaching experience included positions at Vassar College and New York University before she fully immersed herself in the media industry.
