Jay Gilbert Exits Music Biz Weekly After 500 Episodes

Jay Gilbert has announced his departure as cohost of the Music Biz Weekly podcast after reaching the significant milestone of 500 episodes. The podcast, which first launched in 2011, has been a vital resource for music industry professionals and aspiring artists alike. Mike Brandvold, who initiated the podcast, will remain as the sole host moving forward.

Throughout its run, the Music Biz Weekly podcast has provided valuable insights into music marketing, featuring discussions on best practices, industry trends, and tools. Both Gilbert and Brandvold have leveraged their extensive experience in music marketing to create a platform that supports DIY and developing artists in navigating the complexities of the music business.

In addition to his work on the podcast, Gilbert recently concluded his role on the Billboard Behind the Setlist podcast and is stepping back from his responsibilities at Label Logic, the artist and label services firm he co-founded. These changes will enable him to focus on expanding his involvement with music business programs at the collegiate level, as well as his weekly newsletter and podcast, Your Morning Coffee.

Brandvold has expressed gratitude for Gilbert’s contributions and emphasized the podcast’s ongoing commitment to evolve while continuing to serve its audience. As the Music Biz Weekly approaches its 15th anniversary in 2026, the podcast is poised to adapt and grow, ensuring its relevance in the ever-changing landscape of the music industry.
