AUSTIN If you want to get a great first look at our amazing incoming freshmen class, join Huston-Tillotson University at its annual Matriculation Ceremony on this Sunday, August 19, at 2:30 p.m., in the King-Seabrook Chapel.

The University’s Dean of Student Affairs Mrs. Ericka Jones will lead the ceremony. The lineup includes powerful musical selections by the renowned Huston-Tillotson University Concert Choir accompanied by University Organist Dr. Stephen Burnaman and led by Dr. Gloria Quinlan, a scripture, an invocation, and Charge to the Class of 2022 by student leaders, a welcome by Mister and Miss Huston-Tillotson University, occasion by President and CEO Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette, a Litany of Matriculation led by Dr. Archibald Vanderpuye, provost and vice president for academic affairs, and the benediction by Damien Winston, a member of the Class of 2022.

New this year will be the Word of Wisdom delivered by a student, Kelaiah Tillman. Usually, the Word is brought by a local clergyman. But Tillman is bound to move the room as she delivers her message, grounded by years of preaching experience.

At the age of 12, she accepted her calling to preach the Word of God. In addition, Tillman has been a praise dancer, a praise team and choir member, and youth leader.

Tillman is a sophomore, majoring in English-Creative Writing. She served as staff of Religious Life and Campus Ministries during her freshman year and has recently become head of staff for the 2018-2019 school year.

Tillman shared, “I endeavor to please God in every way and live holy to the best of my ability. Most of all, I love God with everything in me!”
