Drake Sued Over Stream-Buying and Gambling Links

Looks like Drake’s caught in a web of legal trouble over some serious stream-buying allegations. This one’s got the industry buzzing.

Drake has recently been named in a lawsuit tied to illegal online gambling activities, with accusations suggesting he may have used funds from these ventures to artificially inflate his music streams. The lawsuit, filed by LaShawnna Ridley and Tiffany Hines, claims that both Drake and popular streamer Adin Ross were involved in promoting an illegal online casino, specifically Stake. Adin has notably livestreamed high-stakes gambling sessions on the platform, generating significant interest from his audience.

The lawsuit alleges that Stake.us was created as a workaround to the restrictions placed on Stake.com in the United States, deeming its operations illegal and unethical. Drake entered a promotional partnership with Stake back in 2022, reportedly valued at around $100 million, marking one of the largest celebrity gambling deals on record. This partnership involved Drake sharing his gambling experiences with fans, similar to Adin’s approach.

According to the plaintiffs, Drake allegedly used his earnings from this deal to engage in ‘stream botting,’ a practice that inflates streaming numbers and misrepresents his music’s popularity. While this civil case raises serious questions, there’s currently no public evidence to substantiate the claims made. Additionally, Drake recently accused Kendrick Lamar’s label, Universal Music Group, of similar practices. That case, however, is currently at a standstill. Both Universal and Spotify have flatly denied any wrongdoing related to their promotion of music in ways that might undermine Drake.

In response to the situation, Spotify has reiterated its strict policies against artificial streams. Their guidelines define these streams as those that do not reflect genuine user engagement and emphasize their commitment to maintaining a fair platform through daily monitoring to eliminate such deceptive practices.

As this legal battle unfolds, The Tab has reached out to Drake for a comment, but there has been no response so far. With allegations swirling, its clear that the stakes are high for all parties involved in this controversy.
