Cox Media Group (CMG) has announced the promotion of David Abel to Vice President and Market Manager of CMG Atlanta Radio, effective February 17. Abel brings extensive experience within CMG and the radio industry to his new role.
Abel’s radio career began in New Orleans, where he developed a reputation as a strong leader. Over 11 years, he held leadership roles with Cox Radio in Birmingham, Orlando, and Greenville before serving as Vice President/General Manager with Apex Broadcasting. He later advanced to Chief Operating Officer at Apex Broadcasting.
Abel continued his career with Griffin Communications as Vice President of Radio before rejoining CMG in 2019 as Vice President and Market Manager for CMG San Antonio Radio. Under his leadership, the San Antonio cluster became one of the highest-rated in the country, consistently placing five stations within the top eight in the market. The team achieved top revenue performance and earned numerous industry accolades, including NAB Marconi Awards, Crystal Awards, CMA Awards, and more.

Abel is an accomplished broadcaster committed to community engagement and industry development. He actively participates in industry boards, including the Texas Association of Broadcasters and the San Antonio Sports Association. In recognition of his contributions, he received the 2024 Breakie Legacy Award from the Texas YES Project, an initiative dedicated to improving educational equality.
