Daily Wire Cuts Ties with Candace Owens Over Antisemitism

The right-leaning media company, The Daily Wire, co-founded by Ben Shapiro, announced it is parting ways with Candace Owens, a commentator known for her extreme right-wing views.

This decision was made public by Jeremy Boreing, CEO of The Daily Wire, who stated that their relationship with Owens had concluded. Owens herself acknowledged this development, suggesting felt liberated by the departure.

Owens, who joined The Daily Wire in 2021, is notorious for her promotion of conspiracy theories and misinformation on a variety of issues, including vaccines and immigration. Despite previously defending her, The Daily Wire has distanced itself following Owens’ controversial remarks about Israel after the Hamas attack on October 7. She accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza and insinuated a conspiracy involving Jews in Hollywood and Washington, D.C.

The situation escalated when Ben Shapiro, who is Jewish, condemned Owens’ remarks as “disgraceful,” specifically her antisemitic suggestions. Owens hit back, implying Shapiro was prioritizing money over religious values, echoing an antisemitic trope. Shapiro countered, suggesting Owens leave if felt conflicted about her compensation from The Daily Wire.

Owens continued her contentious behavior, including an interview with Tucker Carlson, in which criticized Shapiro. She also faced backlash for liking a social media post that made an antisemitic accusation against a rabbi. The Anti-Defamation League criticized Owens for pushing antisemitic narratives, to which responded defiantly, claiming the criticism would backfire.

Despite her departure from The Daily Wire, Owens remains a prominent figure on social media, where continues to share her extremist views. She is a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, whom once called the “savior” of the free world, and was recently seen with him at a UFC event.

The Daily Wire has been criticized for its content in the past, including remarks by other hosts like Matt Walsh, who has expressed anti-LGBTQ sentiments.
