On January 20, reports of outages for Apple Music surged on Downdetector, indicating a potential disruption in the music streaming service. As of shortly after 8 p.m. ET, over 1,000 outage reports were logged, a significant increase from the usual two reports. By 10 p.m. ET, the number of reports had decreased to approximately 850.
Downdetector’s outage map highlights that the majority of reports are coming from major cities including New York City, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle.
While Apple’s system status page does not indicate any issues with Apple Music, it does report outages affecting the App Store, Apple TV, iTunes Store, and Maps traffic.
Additionally, Apple TV and Apple Support also saw a temporary spike in outage reports, with Apple TV experiencing over 3,000 reports just after 9:30 p.m. ET, which later decreased to around 1,600 before 10 p.m. ET.
USA TODAY has reached out to Apple for further comments regarding the outage.
This incident follows a significant Verizon outage that impacted a similar area of the country.
