A mother of nine has died after being served dishwashing liquid at a senior citizens home in the San Francisco Bay Area. The home said the mistake happened after the toxic liquid was consumed instead of an edible drinking juice.
NBC Bay Area reported that two other residents at the Atria Park of San Mateo ingested the drink and were rushed to the hospital. They are listed in critical condition. The 93-year-old woman later died after she was transported to the hospital.
In a statement, the senior home said, “When this occurred, our staff immediately contacted authorities, and the residents were transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. We are conducting our own internal investigation, and the employees involved have been suspended until this investigation concludes.”
No other details were given.
The deceased was described as a long-time resident of San Mateo and a mother to nine children.
