I can honestly say that I actually enjoyed the Soul Train Music Awards. I haven’t said that about any awards show in long time. The last awards show that I really enjoyed was the 1999 MTV Music Awards.

I must say that BET, Centric, and Soul Train did their thing this year. Maybe because the majority of the evening seemed to be dedicated to the 90’s and some great music came out of that decade. Keith Sweat was one of the honoree’s of the evening but the real legend in the building was Dionne Warwick.

The Dionne Warwick tribute was one of the highlights of the evening because I always enjoy when icons are recognized for their work. She may not have been an integral part of the 90’s but she was an integral part of many decades leading up to it and she obviously inspired many artists that came up during that era and beyond. Speaking of the beyond, the performances were pretty good from all of the artists.

I absolutely loved the opening of the show with Jennifer Hudson, Evelyn Champagne King, and Chaka Khan as well as host, Anthony Anderson’s dance routine. Being a hip-hop music head, I loved the ending of the show with Warren G., Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, and Big Daddy Kane.

To top it all off, the infamous Soul Train line was the perfect way to put Love, Peace, & Soul on display. Kudos to all parties involved.
