In 2025, the global music industry achieved a milestone of 5.1 trillion streams, marking a 9.6% increase from the previous year. According to Luminate’s Year-End Report, on-demand audio streams in the U.S. reached 1.4 trillion, a rise of 4.6% from 2024.

Interestingly, only 43% of these streams came from songs released in the last five years. Notable exceptions were Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ and Morgan Wallen’s ‘I’m the Problem,’ each surpassing 5 million album equivalent units in a single year.

Despite a slight downturn in new music streams, Christian/gospel music saw an 18.5% growth, with artists like Forrest Frank and Brandon Lake leading the charge. Rock music experienced a 6.4% increase, while Latin music, driven by Bad Bunny, grew by 5.2%.

Bad Bunny’s influence was significant, with 5.3 billion on-demand audio streams in 2025, accounting for 4.38% of all Latin streams. His new album, ‘Deb� Tirar M�s Fotos,’ alone generated 2.97 billion streams.

The rise of AI artists became a notable trend, with acts like Xania Monet debuting on Billboard charts, showcasing the evolving landscape of music creation.

Globally, the top songs by on-demand audio streams include hits from Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, HUNTR/X, and Alex Warren, with seven of the top ten tracks released in 2024.

R&B and hip-hop continued to dominate U.S. streaming, accounting for over 25% of total streams, followed by rock, pop, country, and Latin genres.
