Revisiting Bobby Womack’s Legacy: ABKCO’s Tribute with Lyric Videos

In recent years, the music industry has been embracing nostalgia, and the legendary Bobby Womack’s legacy is no exception. ABKCO has been celebrating this iconic artist by releasing lyric videos for four of his remarkable tracks from the 1980s. To commemorate what would have been Bobby’s 76th birthday on March 4th, lyric videos for “So Many Sides of You” and “Secrets” were unveiled across all major streaming platforms. A week later, fans were treated to the releases of “Where Do We Go From Here” and “Just My Imagination”. These tracks, all Womack originals, were part of his wildly successful 1981 album, The Poet.

A Blend of Old and New: The Creative Process

London-based creative boutique, ABLE, was enlisted by ABKCO to create the lyric videos and visualizers for Bobby Womack’s seminal album The Poet. The team aimed to merge styles from the 70s and 80s with typography and images of Bobby, to breathe new life into his lyrics. The challenge was to make each video unique yet cohesive. The solution lay in using fonts from Bobby’s original artwork and color schemes that reflected the era and photography.

A Glimpse into Bobby Womack’s Remarkable Career

Bobby Womack was a multi-faceted artist who made a significant impact in gospel, rock, pop, and soul music. His career began with The Valentinos, a group formed with his brothers, and then branched out into working with major artists like Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, King Curtis, Sly & The Family Stone, Aretha Franklin, and Wilson Pickett.
