New York Times Critic’s Pick VULCANIZADORA Opens Tomorrow

This marks the fourth collaboration between Potrykus and Oscilloscope Laboratories, following their breakout hit and cult favorite BUZZARD (2014).

In addition to VULCANIZADORA, Potrykus has guest-programmed April’s “Waverly Midnights” at New York’s IFC Center, showcasing films like George Miller’s MAD MAX (4/11, 4/12), Sam Raimi’s THE EVIL DEAD (4/18, 4/19), and Richard Franklin’s PSYCHO II (4/25, 4/26). Potrykus will also introduce THE BEAVER TRILOGY (Trent Harris) in-person at IFC Center on May 2nd and 3rd.

VULCANIZADORA follows two friends (Potrykus and longtime collaborator Joshua Burge) as they journey through a Michigan forest to fulfill a disturbing pact. However, their plan takes a shocking turn, and the haunting consequences of their failure are soon impossible to ignore.

The film, which left Tribeca audiences stunned, has been lauded by Variety as “surprisingly moving in its depiction of mid-life crises and two men betrayed by the world.” Shot in 16mm, the film further cements Potrykus as a singular filmmaker, as he not only writes, directs, and edits but also co-leads the feature. The film is produced by Ashley Potrykus, Hannah Dweck, Theodore Schaefer of Dweck Productions, and Matt Grady of Factory 25.
