Swedish heavy metal band Sabaton has made waves once again by releasing their latest single, “Yamato,” in collaboration with the popular naval multiplayer game, World Of Warships. This new track, available both in-game and across all digital streaming platforms, is released under Better Noise Music and follows their 2025 album, Legends. Notably, the album featured the hit single “Crossing The Rubicon,” which marked the band’s first entry into the Top 10 of the Billboard Rock Chart.
The release of “Yamato” marks the second collaboration between Sabaton and Wargaming, the developers behind World Of Warships, following their successful partnership on the song “Bismarck.” This time, players can experience a Sabaton-branded Yamato ship in the game, complete with unique dialogue from vocalist Joakim Brodén and bassist Pär Sundström. Players can also enjoy the new single as the soundtrack during battles, enhancing the gaming experience with a heavy metal twist.
The song “Yamato” pays homage to the legendary Japanese battleship of the same name, which was unveiled in 1941 and became a symbol of naval power. The ship’s final mission in 1945, a suicide mission to defend Okinawa, is depicted in the music video, which was filmed in Belgrade, Serbia. The video showcases the band aboard the ship as it descends into the ocean, capturing the chaos and intensity of the battle. Despite the freezing conditions during the shoot, the band persevered, even wearing weights to simulate the feeling of sinking.
Vocalist Joakim Brodén expressed the significance of naval history in Sabaton’s music, stating that the band has always been intrigued by battleships and their stories. He noted that “Yamato” serves as a natural continuation of their previous work with “Bismarck.” Bassist Pär Sundström echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the band’s desire to follow up on the story of the Yamato, which fans have long requested.
Sabaton’s previous collaboration with World Of Warships for “Bismarck” has garnered over 116.8 million streams on Spotify, showcasing the band’s ability to blend historical narratives with heavy metal music. As they continue to forge their path in the music industry, fans can look forward to upcoming live performances, with a tour scheduled across North America this fall.
