Universal Music Group (UMG) has announced the renewal of its strategic multi-year agreement with NetEase Cloud Music, a prominent music streaming service in China. This new deal follows their previous agreement from 2020 and allows for the distribution of UMG’s extensive music catalog across NetEase Cloud Music’s platform and related digital services in China.
As part of the agreement, NetEase Cloud Music will distribute UMG’s global catalog, featuring both local Chinese and international artists, across its streaming services and associated digital products.
The partnership will also focus on collaborative marketing campaigns and product innovations aimed at enhancing the fan experience, while promoting domestic Chinese artists alongside UMG’s global talent.
William Ding, CEO of NetEase Cloud Music, expressed satisfaction with the renewed agreement, stating, “With the largest user base globally, China stands as the world’s biggest music streaming market. We will continue to work closely with UMG to provide premium music experiences to our users while exploring diverse collaboration opportunities.”
Adam Granite, Executive Vice President of Market Development at UMG, noted that the renewed agreement deepens UMG’s commitment to the Chinese music market, aiming to create an artist-first streaming environment that supports creators and engages fans.
Timothy Xu, Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Greater China, emphasized the excitement of expanding their partnership to introduce UMG’s artist roster to Chinese music fans. He highlighted their commitment to creating innovative engagement opportunities and outstanding music experiences.
