The City of Huntsville has commissioned a new study aimed at evaluating the economic impact and growth of its music industry, reinforcing its commitment to becoming a prominent music destination. This initiative will be conducted by Sound Diplomacy over the next 12 weeks and will analyze the local music ecosystem and its broader economic implications.
This study builds upon the findings from the city’s initial music audit in 2018, also performed by Sound Diplomacy, which provided valuable insights that led to the establishment of the Huntsville Music Office. The original audit influenced key policy decisions and investments in infrastructure, programming, and partnerships that have shaped the city’s music landscape.
Since the first audit, Huntsville has experienced substantial growth in its music sector, highlighted by the launch of The Orion Amphitheater, the introduction of major festivals like South Star, and increased activities at the Von Braun Center. The emergence of new independent venues and local artists has further energized the scene, contributing to a vibrant cultural environment.
The new study will generate a comprehensive database and an interactive map of the music ecosystem in Huntsville. It will include a high-level analysis of changes since 2018, case studies on key events and venues, and an updated economic impact assessment that quantifies direct, indirect, and induced effects of the music industry. This data will be instrumental in guiding future investments and policy decisions to foster a sustainable music ecosystem in Huntsville.
