FIU Students Perform with Yandel at Radio City Music Hall

Students from Florida International University (FIU) showcased their talents at Radio City Music Hall on Valentine’s Day, performing alongside renowned Latin music artists Yandel and J Balvin. This performance was part of the Yandel Sinfónico tour, which uniquely blends reggaeton with orchestral music, and has already garnered a Grammy nomination.

The collaboration involved performance majors, music business students, and recent graduates from the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts. The initiative was spearheaded by FIU Symphony Orchestra conductor Javier Mendoza, who has previously collaborated with Yandel on his latest album. The involvement of the university’s orchestra and students not only enhances their educational experience but also contributes to their professional development in the music industry.

For many students, this experience provided invaluable insights into the entertainment industry. The performance allowed them to explore the multifaceted nature of live shows, encompassing aspects such as production, stage movement, and audience engagement. The collaborative project has encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones and embrace diverse musical styles, fostering a more versatile approach to their craft.

The event also highlighted the importance of networking in the music industry. Students reported that performing in prestigious venues like Radio City Music Hall allowed them to build connections with industry professionals, which can significantly impact their future careers. Alumni of FIU returned to join the performance, further emphasizing the long-lasting impact of these collaborative experiences on the university’s music community.
