Grammy Winner Alonzo Lee to Record with St. Louis Students

 width=The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and America SCORES are pleased to announce that this Thursday, August 30, 2012, Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Alonzo “Zo” Lee (Ludacris, Britney Spears) will record a song with the students of America SCORES St. Louis as part of the ASCAP Songwriter Residency @ America SCORES, a mentorship program funded by The ASCAP Foundation that provides a platform for songwriters to engage and inspire elementary and middle school students in under-resourced neighborhoods. The song, “I Believe In Me,” was written and produced by Zo, Tendai for The Trak Starz/Starz Angels and America SCORES students from 14 cities across the nation. It will feature Psalm One (Rhymesayers Entertainment), Flo (Trak Starz Records) and the America SCORES St. Louis students, and will be recorded at ex’treme institute by Nelly with multi-platinum engineer Carl Nappa (Nelly, N’SYNC) at the helm. Commenting on the program, Zo said: “I’m really looking forward to working in the studio with the students of America SCORES St. Louis. Getting to know and write with these kids all across the country was an experience like no other. Music is such a powerful thing, and programs like the ASCAP Songwriter Residency @ America SCORES can give kids the voice and spark that is sometimes overlooked in the classroom. I know we’re going to leave the studio with something great.”I Believe In Me” will be the next single on the Psalm One/ASCAP Songwriter Residency album Child Support, to be released on September 25. Furthering the excitement behind this recording session, “I Believe In Me” will serve as the national theme song for The Great America SCORES Soccer Dribble, a joint effort between America SCORES organizations in ten U.S. cities, formed with the goal to beat the Guinness World Record for the most soccer balls ever dribbled by a group at one time. The Great America SCORES Soccer Dribble benefits America SCORES youth and engages the local and national community in their mission to inspire youth to lead healthy lives. Participating cities include Atlanta, San Francisco, Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Portland, Milwaukee, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and St. Louis. The Great America SCORES Soccer Dribble will take place on September 29, 2012. Established in 2006, the ASCAP Songwriter Residency @ America SCORES has brought more than 30 songwriters to 12 cities across the country.
