American Trial is a new film about what would have happened if former police officer, Daniel Pantaleo went on trial for the notorious chokehold that killed Eric Garner during the summer of 2014. The film will debut at the New York Film Festival on October 12. (A press and industry screening is occurring on October 11 at 1:45 pm at the Walter Reed Theatre in Lincoln Center.) Roee Messenger, the filmmaker, is available for interviews.
Messenger uses a mix of fiction and fact and creates a trial for former Police Officer, Daniel Pantaleo. He uses real people as actors, including bystanders, friends, and Garner’s widow, Esaw Snipes. The officer is played by the only actor in the cast (Anthony Altieri).
To this day, the event has spurred a great division across the country. Roee Messinger’s film goes deep into the case, placing the audience in the position of the jury. To view the film trailer, please visit: https://vimeo.com/268064217.
