NABEF BACKS ‘LET’S MOVE’ INITIATIVE TO END CHILDHOOD OBESITY– NAB Board of Directors approves resolution to fight childhood obesity in the U.S. –WASHINGTON, DC — The National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation announced today that it will launch a nationwide program designed to address issues related to the rise in childhood obesity. The initiative is supported by the National Association of Broadcasters Joint Board of Directors, which unanimously approved a resolution regarding broadcasters’ efforts to fight childhood obesity in the U.S. during the group’s June meetings:”Be it resolved that in recognition of growing concerns about childhood obesity and the potential impact on our nation’s healthcare and wellness of children; the NAB Board of Directors and by extension its member local stations and networks agree to support First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” childhood obesity initiative.”We look forward to helping inform and educate our nation’s children and parents on the benefits of healthy eating and living.”Underscoring the broadcast industry’s commitment, NABEF is working to launch a nationwide initiative designed to unite radio and television broadcasters with schools across the country to promote a healthier lifestyle. The campaign will be coordinated in conjunction with First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign designed to reduce childhood obesity in America.

As part of the initiative, NAB member stations will coordinate a nationwide “Flash Workout” in which students perform a pre-choreographed “Let’s Move” dance routine that will be facilitated by participating schools across the country at a prearranged date and time. Broadcasters will receive public service announcement (PSA) programming ideas related to the event, live read announcer scripts and other resources. Campaign details will be announced at a later date.
