Allen Power’s planned retirement matters because Salem Media is preparing for a leadership change at the same time it continues to manage a major broadcast footprint built around Christian teaching and talk and conservative news talk. Power will step down from Salem Media’s broadcast group on September 30 and move into the role of Senior Advisor after 50 years in broadcasting.
Fifty years in, Power chooses a final chapter
Power said June 15, 1976 was the day he started his first job in broadcasting, and he marked the 50-year milestone by setting an end date for his career. He said he has spent more than half of that time at Salem and described his work there as a blessing, adding that his next chapter will focus on faith, family, and worthwhile organizations.
Power joined Salem in 2000 as the company’s first General Manager in Atlanta. He later moved through roles as Regional Vice President and Senior Vice President before being named President of Broadcast Media in 2023. His 26 years at the company have covered a period of growth across radio, digital media, and content distribution.
Salem’s broadcast strategy has been under his watch
In recent years, Power has overseen the concentration of Salem’s broadcast holdings in Christian teaching and talk and conservative news talk, alongside the Salem Radio Network, which syndicates programming to approximately 2,600 affiliates nationwide. He has also served on the Executive Committee of the NAB Board of Directors and previously chaired the Georgia Association of Broadcasters.
Power was named one of Radio Ink’s Top 20 Leaders in Radio in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
Succession plans are next
Salem said it plans to reveal succession plans in the coming weeks. Salem Media CEO David Santrella said he and Power have worked together for nearly 25 years and said Power’s leadership, ability to inspire others, and understanding of the business will be missed. Santrella also said Power has led with integrity, humility, and a genuine commitment to serving others.
