Spotify: Australian Music Grows on Global Stage

Spotify has released its Australian Music Global Impact List, indicating a notable shift in the global presence of Australian artists. The 2025 edition expands to a Top 50 ranking, showcasing tracks with significant international impact outside of Australia. This year marks a 69% increase in global streams for local artists since 2020, signaling a transformation in how Australian music reaches international audiences.

Leading this global wave is Sia, who has made history by topping the Global Impact List twice. Her collaboration with David Guetta, ‘Beautiful People,’ has been recognized as the most-streamed Australian song internationally for 2025. Following closely, Tame Impala’s fifth studio album, ‘Deadbeat,’ saw seven tracks enter the Top 50, with ‘Dracula’ ranking second overall. The Kid LAROI also demonstrated strong international traction, placing seven tracks on the list, including ‘I know love’ at number three.

The list highlights the emergence of new talent, with artists like Lithe and kiki wera making significant inroads into the global market. The success of long-standing tracks, such as The Temper Trap’s ‘Sweet Disposition’ through a recent remix, illustrates the ongoing relevance of catalog music in the streaming era. This trend reflects a broader shift in music consumption, where tracks can resurface long after their initial release due to algorithmic discovery and the power of social media.

Geographically, the U.S. remains the primary market for Australian music exports, followed by the UK and Germany. However, emerging markets like South Africa, the Philippines, and Colombia are rapidly gaining traction, with export growth rates of 99%, 64%, and 53%, respectively, over the past three years. This diversification underscores the evolving landscape of music consumption and the expanding global reach of Australian artists.
