Introduction

Scammers are targeting clients looking to get their hair braided by using real stylists’ work and creating fake social media pages.

Reports of Scams

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is receiving reports of scams targeting individuals wanting braids. Scammers take pictures from legitimate stylists and post them on fake social media pages.

Modus Operandi

Potential clients find the fake pages and book appointments, often making small deposits. Clients realize they have been scammed when they do not hear back from the supposed stylist on the appointment day.

Impact on Legitimate Businesses

Real stylists like Porsche Hensley, who has been braiding hair for over 10 years and owns Divine Innovation 615 in Nashville, are affected. Hensley reported instances where clients arrived for appointments, only to find out they were scammed.

Precautions to Avoid Scams

BBB advises not to pay for the service in full before the appointment. Visit the stylist’s location before booking. Verify the stylist’s work by searching for them online and including the word “scam” after their name. Ask for the stylist’s license number and verify it.

Continuing the Business

Despite the scams, stylists like Porsche Hensley remain undeterred and continue their work.

Conclusion

Scammers exploiting the popularity of hair braiding are causing issues for both clients and legitimate stylists. Clients are advised to take precautions to ensure they are booking authentic services.

Rickey Smiley Talks LaTocha Scott’s BET Awards Outfit

Share

Gary With Da Tea said when the ladies of Xscape stepped out at the 2022 Soul Train Music Awards, their outfits were not in unison, and they appeared to be “not on the same page.” While Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tina” Cottle-Harris, and Tamika Scott all wore shimmery er gowns, LaTocha Scott seemingly went with a different look and emerged in a green belted gown, said Gary. This caused the singer to reportedly “stick out like a sore thumb,” he added.

Allegedly Scott addressed the mishap and claimed did not receive the memo. In an Instagram post, wrote: “Still on a high from last night, so grateful to receive the Lady of Soul award. To still be embraced after 29 years is very humbling… Sorry, I didn’t get the memo, but everyone still looked amazing.”

Burruss allegedly responded by saying, “The only thing for people to know is that you chose to have a separate stylist from the rest of the group. You chose to separate yourself do not blame us for that. Stop continuing to put out false narratives.”

Gary said perhaps Scott did not get the memo. However, Da Brat disagreed. “If everybody in the group got the memo, then everyone in the group got the memo. Why would they not send one person the memo?” said.

Gary noted that although the group was mismatched, they did look “nice.”
