Rickey Smiley Talks LaTocha Scott’s BET Awards Outfit

The 2022 Soul Train Music Awards: Fashion Mismatch Among Xscape

At the 2022 Soul Train Music Awards, the ladies of Xscape were celebrated for their performance, but their choice of outfits raised some eyebrows. Gary With Da Tea remarked that the group’s fashion coordination seemed off, as Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tina” Cottle-Harris, and Tamika Scott all wore shimmering gowns that matched, while LaTocha Scott’s green belted gown appeared out of place. This difference in styles caused the singer to stand out significantly, leading Gary to describe her look as “sticking out like a sore thumb.”

LaTocha Scott Responds to Fashion Mishap

In response to the fashion misstep, Scott addressed the situation, explaining that she had not received the memo regarding the dress code. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she expressed her gratitude for receiving the Lady of Soul award and the continued support after 29 years. She also apologized for not being in sync with the rest of the group, but still praised the overall appearance of her fellow bandmates.

Kandi Burruss Weighs In on the Situation

Burruss, however, was quick to provide her perspective on the matter. She pointed out that Scott had opted for a different stylist than the rest of the group, which ultimately led to the fashion mismatch. Burruss emphasized that Scott’s choice to separate herself stylistically was her decision and that it should not be blamed on anyone else. She also called out the spreading of false narratives regarding the situation.

Da Brat Offers a Different Perspective

While Gary acknowledged that perhaps Scott did not receive the memo, Da Brat offered a differing view. She suggested that if the rest of the group had received the memo, then Scott should have as well. According to Da Brat, it didn’t make sense for only one member to be excluded from the communication regarding the outfit coordination.

Despite the Mismatch, the Group Still Looked “Nice”

Despite the slight discord in their fashion choices, Gary noted that, in the end, the group still looked “nice” overall, even if their outfits weren’t perfectly aligned. This fashion dilemma sparked considerable attention, with many fans taking to social media to weigh in on the debate about unity and individual expression within a group dynamic.
