OH NO: DJ has Stroke at 21/No Health Insurance

DJ Shane’s Health Crisis: A Call for Community Support

Shane Bingaman, a popular disc jockey known as “DJ Shane,” who has worked at Griff’s Landing in downtown Frederick, suffered a stroke last weekend at the age of 21. The stroke, which was caused by a blood clot due to a heart condition, has left him in a critical condition. In addition to the stroke, Bingaman fell, resulting in two cracked vertebrae in his neck. As part of his recovery, he will be required to wear a neck brace for two months.

A Tough Road Ahead

Due to his medical condition, Bingaman will be unable to return to work for three months, which presents a financial strain, especially as he does not have health insurance. To support him during this challenging time, Jenn Smith, the manager of Griff’s Landing, has organized a special event titled “That’s My DJ.” The event is scheduled for Sunday night and will serve as both a fundraiser and a show of support for Bingaman.

Community-Driven Fundraiser

The event will feature music from DJ Tipsy, who will help keep the energy high as the community gathers to support their local DJ. To raise funds, T-shirts will be sold along with raffle tickets for gift cards donated by local businesses. A $5 cover charge will be collected at the door, and all proceeds from this fee will go directly toward Bingaman’s medical expenses. Additionally, Griff’s will donate 25 percent of their income from the event to Bingaman.

Hope for a Swift Recovery

Jenn Smith expressed that while they understand they cannot completely alleviate Bingaman’s burdens, the goal of the event is to show him that the community is there for him. “We’re trying to help with whatever we can,” Smith said. “I know we can’t make it all better, but we’re trying.” This community-driven effort is a testament to the strong bonds within Frederick, as people come together to support a young man who has brought joy to so many with his work as a DJ.

A Show of Support from the Frederick Community

Bingaman’s story has resonated deeply within the local community, with many eager to offer help. The event at Griff’s Landing is just one example of how people are rallying around Bingaman in his time of need. His recovery may be a long road, but with the outpouring of support from his friends, family, and the broader Frederick community, there is hope that he will emerge from this difficult period stronger than ever.
