After leaving The Gap Band in the mid-1980s, Wilson embarked on a successful solo career. He released his debut album “In My Stride” in 1987, which included the chart-topping single “Give Me Your Lovin’.” Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he released hit albums and singles, earning 13 Grammy nominations, 11 NAACP Image Awards, and numerous other accolades.

Some of his most popular solo songs include “There Goes My Baby,” “Charlie, Last Name Wilson,” “You Are My Love,” and “My Favorite Kinda Night.” He’s also known for his collaborations with other artists, including Bruno Mars, Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, and Snoop Dogg, who affectionately gave him the nickname “Uncle Charlie.”
