Australian Ruling Strengthens Record Industry for LRFA

In recent Congressional sessions, the advocacy group musicFIRST, along with a bipartisan group of lawmakers, has made several attempts to pass the American Music Fairness Act. However, these efforts have repeatedly stalled due to a strong coalition of both Republican and Democratic representatives opposing additional fees on broadcast radio for the airplay of recorded music, which the music industry views as free promotion.

Meanwhile, in Australia, legislation aimed at increasing broadcasters’ royalty rates has successfully passed, resulting in significantly higher payments than current amounts.
