The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is receiving reports of scams targeting individuals wanting braids. Scammers take pictures from legitimate stylists and post them on fake social media pages.

Modus Operandi

Potential clients find the fake pages and book appointments, often making small deposits. Clients realize they have been scammed when they do not hear back from the supposed stylist on the appointment day.

Impact on Legitimate Businesses

Real stylists like Porsche Hensley, who has been braiding hair for over 10 years and owns Divine Innovation 615 in Nashville, are affected. Hensley reported instances where clients arrived for appointments, only to find out they were scammed.

Precautions to Avoid Scams

BBB advises not to pay for the service in full before the appointment. Visit the stylist’s location before booking. Verify the stylist’s work by searching for them online and including the word “scam” after their name. Ask for the stylist’s license number and verify it.

Continuing the Business

Despite the scams, stylists like Porsche Hensley remain undeterred and continue their work.

Boyarski Fritz LLP Expands to the West Coast with the Appointments of Avi Dahan and Evan Zinaman

Boyarski Fritz LLP, one of the leading law firms in music and entertainment for the last ten years, announced today that it has establid its first-ever West Coast team based in Beverly Hills, with the appointment of Avi Dahan and Evan Zinaman, attorneys with significant experience in the entertainment and media industries.

Dahan joins Boyarski Fritz LLP after two years running his own private practice.  Prior to that, he was an associate at Johnson & Johnson LLP where he worked on high profile transactional and litigation cases in music and film. 

Early in his career, Dahan worked at WME, Roc Nation and Columbia Records, as well as owning his own live events business before attending law school at USC’s prestigious Gould School of Law. 

Dahan’s roster of clients include multi-platinum songwriter/ producer Johnny Goldstein (SonyATV/APG), DJ/Producer duo DVBBS (Ultra), as well as recording artists Dempsey Hope (RCA/SonyATV), Sebastian Javier (Elektra/Warner Chappell), and Slush Puppy(Disruptor/Sony). 

He also co-counsels several clients with firm Partner Jason Boyarski, including TikTok sensation JVKE whose single “Upside Down” features Charlie Puth.

Zinaman joins the firm after serving as Senior Attorney at the entertainment firm Abrams Garfinkel Margolis Bergson, LLP, where he specialized in transactions and negotiations in music, film, television, and corporate matters including financing, development, production, distribution, and corporate structuring. 

Zinaman began his career after graduating the University of Michigan Law School in 2015 as an Associate at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York City, where he handled massive corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, credit finance, and securities.
