Update on Cleveland Assault Case: Woman’s Resilience Amidst Tragic Incident
A recent update reveals that the woman discovered by Cleveland Police inside a sealed plastic container is now out of a coma and fighting for her life. Her family, though seeking assistance, have expressed strong sentiments of resilience, stating, “He didn’t win, I’m still alive.” Despite her ongoing recovery, the woman faces significant challenges ahead.
Incident Details: The Discovery and Immediate Response
The incident took place on May 2 when Cleveland Police responded to a report of a possible violent assault in the West Boulevard neighborhood. Upon arriving, officers found a 60-year-old woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, stuffed and folded into a small black tote bag. She had sustained multiple stab wounds and was beaten severely, resulting in life-threatening injuries. Promptly, she was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center for urgent medical care.
The Arrest and Charges: Dalontay Edmond-Geiger Sr.
Dalontay Edmond-Geiger Sr., the suspect in the case, was apprehended at the scene and faces various felony charges, including attempted murder. During his arraignment, Edmond-Geiger Sr. pleaded not guilty. His demeanor during the hearing raised eyebrows when he displayed contempt toward the presiding judge by gesturing with his middle finger after his bond was increased.
Victim’s Condition: Coma and Paralyzed
According to a relative of the victim, she had been in a coma for an extended period, suffering from a broken back and spine, which left her paralyzed. The police report notes that the officers were initially alerted to the crime scene at a residence on W. 97th Street around 3:30 p.m. on May 2. Although Edmond-Geiger Sr. allowed officers to search the basement, he caused a 30-minute delay before complying with their request.
Confession and Court Proceedings
After the initial search, the police returned to the residence after midnight on May 3. At that point, Edmond-Geiger Sr. purportedly confessed that an individual was concealed inside the tote bag on the porch. In response to the severity of the crime, the court has ordered that Edmond-Geiger Sr. be held on a $750,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 30 in Cleveland Municipal Court.
