Deezer, the popular music streaming service, is marking the anniversary of its Women Chart by expanding its reach to six additional countries. Launched in March 2025, the chart tracks the 50 most-streamed songs by female artists each month, initially available in markets such as France, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico.

The recent expansion includes Serbia, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Denmark, Croatia, and Poland, allowing Deezer to engage a wider European audience. This initiative aims to combat the ongoing underrepresentation of female artists in mainstream music charts, despite their significant cultural impact and popularity.

Narjes Bahhar, Deezer’s rap and R&B editor, emphasized the importance of this initiative in highlighting women’s contributions to the music industry. “The Women Chart was born from a clear observation: women are still underrepresented in the charts. Yet, they shape music every day,” Bahhar stated. She noted that the chart serves a vital purpose in correcting imbalances and making visible the contributions of female artists.

Bahhar further explained that the expansion of the chart is part of Deezer’s broader commitment to promoting diversity in music. “One year after its launch, its expansion to new countries confirms one thing: this commitment must be global. We have an editorial responsibility to choose what we highlight and broaden the scene to reflect those who create music,” she added.

In addition to the Women Chart, Deezer has introduced various features within its app to celebrate women in music during March. These include curated playlists focused on female performers and a dedicated version of the personalized recommendation feature, Flow, showcasing music exclusively by women. The platform has also reported that, on average, 27% of listening time in February 2026 was devoted to female artists, indicating a growing trend in audience engagement with female talent.

Nina Boulet-Gigliesi, a Music and Culture Specialist at Deezer, revealed that the editorial teams have also collaborated to create a playlist featuring female artists from diverse regions. “Together with the women editors at Deezer, we thought it would be fun to make the experience more human: a playlist that brings styles and territories together and highlights female voices,” Boulet-Gigliesi remarked. This collaborative effort underscores the belief that music is most powerful when it shares a variety of stories and experiences.
