Introducing the “Fueling Musicians” Relief Program
Joe Bonamassa’s Non-Profit Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation (KTBA) has launched the “Fueling Musicians” program to provide essential financial support to touring musicians facing hardships due to the impact of COVID-19 on the music industry. This initiative aims to alleviate immediate financial burdens by offering cash payments of $1,000 for essential living expenses and pre-paid gas cards valued at $500. These resources are designed to help musicians navigate their current challenges and prepare for a return to the road when it becomes safe to do so.
The Motivation Behind the Program
The idea for the Fueling Musicians program emerged during the stay-at-home orders, as Bonamassa reflected on his own experiences as a struggling touring artist. He expressed concern for the many musicians whose careers have been disrupted and whose futures have become uncertain. “Right now, the music industry has been brought to its knees,” Bonamassa stated, highlighting the urgent need for financial assistance. His goal is to provide crucial funding that will not only support artists during this crisis but also enable them to resume touring when live events are permitted.
Initial Funding and Future Plans
To launch this vital initiative, KTBA and Joe Bonamassa have committed $25,000 in immediate funding for musicians in need. This initial financial support will come from various sources, including the sale of a prototype JB signature amp from Bonamassa’s personal collection. Additionally, KTBA is actively organizing fundraising efforts through multiple platforms, ensuring that all proceeds go directly to the Fueling Musicians program. Bonamassa plans to host a week-long fundraiser on Facebook for his birthday on May 8, and a special stream-a-thon featuring exclusive performances is also in the works for May.
Commitment to the Music Community
Joe Bonamassa emphasizes the importance of supporting artists during this critical time in the music business. “I want to see as many bands and artists survive and flourish going forward when they are given the green light to tour again,” he said. Over the past seven years, Bonamassa has successfully hosted the Keeping The Blues Alive At Sea music festival, showcasing both legendary and emerging talent. Through this event, he has dedicated his resources to promoting over 100 skilled musicians and has taken on the role of mentor for young artists seeking guidance in their careers.
