Impact on Legitimate Businesses

Real stylists like Porsche Hensley, who has been braiding hair for over 10 years and owns Divine Innovation 615 in Nashville, are affected. Hensley reported instances where clients arrived for appointments, only to find out they were scammed.

Precautions to Avoid Scams

BBB advises not to pay for the service in full before the appointment. Visit the stylist’s location before booking. Verify the stylist’s work by searching for them online and including the word “scam” after their name. Ask for the stylist’s license number and verify it.

Continuing the Business

Despite the scams, stylists like Porsche Hensley remain undeterred and continue their work.

Sony/ATV Signs WondaGurl to Global Publishing Deal

Today, Sony/ATV Music Publishing announced it has signed multi-platinum, Grammy nominated producer WondaGurl to a worldwide co-publishing deal. WondaGurl is well known for crafting some of today’s top hip-hop and R&B singles with prominent artists including Travis Scott, Jay-Z, Drake, Rihanna, Bryson Tiller, Lil Uzi Vert, SZA, and many others.

WondaGurl has produced popular songs including “Antidote,” “No Bystanders,” and “Can’t Say” by Travis Scott, “Aim for the Moon” by Pop Smoke ft. Quavo, “Christopher Walking” by Pop Smoke, platinum single “No Idea” by Don Toliver, “Gang Gang” from JACKBOYS’ #1 EP album, “B**ch Better Have My Money” by Rihanna, and “Company” by Drake ft. Travis Scott. WondaGurl is also one of the youngest women to add production to a platinum-selling hip hop album due to her work on Jay-Z’s 2013 album, Magna Carta Holy Grail.

Recently, WondaGurl was featured in the Music category of Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2018, which recognized her incredible success as a producer. Originally hailing from Toronto, Canada, WondaGurl began teaching herself how to create music at ten years old and quickly rose to prominence by winning the 2012 ‘Battle of The Beat Makers’ competition at fifteen. Her music soon caught the attention of Boi-1da, a top producer for artists including Drake, Jay-Z, and Kendrick Lamar, and became his protégé upon entering the music industry.
