Postal Service to Release New Stamps Honoring Shirley Chisholm

Postal Service toAs the nation prepares to observe Black Month, the Postal Service is proud to announce that on Jan. 31 former Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm will become the 37th honoree in the Black Heritage stamp series. Chisholm was the first African American woman to serve in the Congress. In 1972, ran for president, becoming the first African American to seek the nomination of a major political party. The Shirley Chisholm stamp ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 31 at Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn, NY.The stamp will be dedicated by the Deputy Postmaster General of the United States Postal Service, Ronald Stroman . Mr. Stroman is available for interviews about the new stamp Friday, Jan. 24, 7-8 a.m.; Tuesday, Jan. 28, 7-9 a.m. or 4-5 p.m. I would like to arrange an about the new stamp with Mr. Stroman.
