It looks like the sports world is following behind the music industry. With Frank Ocean and Clive Davis admitting their affinity for men, finally an athlete has announced that he is gay. NBA Player Jason Collins has come out in the latest edition of Sports Illustrated with an open letter to the world. In the letter, he speaks of living in misery for years because he lived a lie and his own twin brother didn’t even know about his sexuality. He also spoke about going to extreme lengths to hide his “real” life from his family, his teammates, and the world. Here is quote below from the letter.”I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I’m happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn’t the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, ‘I’m different.’ If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I’m raising my hand.”Maybe Jason’s courage will spark the brain for change and allow some of these other athletes, entertainers, and high profile people to come out and live their lives freely.
