Members of the Enough is Enough Campaign are demanding that the network stop airing what they call demeaning and offensive portrayals of black people.

The group says it will return every weekend until BET chief Debra Lee addresses their concerns. The campaign is critical of popular culture that portrays black men as “pimps” and “gangsters” and sexually objectifies black women.

Lee said she was disappointed that several attempts this week to arrange a meeting with the group had failed.
And in a letter last week, she said BET plans to launch 16 “balanced” shows by the end of the year. (after the protesters left Lee’s house they went to go to visit their relatives in jail)

  1. BET could be much more viable in their programming. I for one prefer TV One over BET because it has positive programming by and about Black People. We have shown the world that we can dance, sing, act and play sports but we are also inventors, entreprenuers, scientists. enomomist, physicans, lawyers, world travelers, writers and poets. Come on BET raise your programming standards!!!!!
