One time popular talk show host Jerry Springer was diagnosed with cancer a few months back, and he took a turn for the worse recently and died at 79. Springer was also a politician.

Springer died peacefully in Chicago surrounded by family. “Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success, and everything he tried, whether that was politics, broadcasting, or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word” Jene Galvin, a family friend, said in a statement pertaining to Springer’s effect on people.

The statement continued, “Funeral services and a memorial gathering are currently being developed. To remember Jerry, the family ask that in Leiu of flowers, people consider following his spirit and make a donation or commit to an act of kindness to someone in need or with an advocacy organization. As he always said, take care of yourself and each other.”

Jerry Springer was the 56th mayor of Cincinnati, OH in the 70s. He turned his sights to television after his political career and he is best known for his wildly popular show The Jerry Springer Show, which ran for 28 seasons from 1991 to 2018.

After that, he also had a reality TV series, Judge Jerry, which came after the end of his talk show. He admitted that Judge Jerry was his first grown-up job in the 30 years since his career began.

Springer was also a lawyer and an actor.
