Dr Wendell Cox Co-Founder of Bell Broadcasting in Detroit…Owners of WCHB and the Original WJZZ (THE highest rated Jazz formatted Radio Station in the Nation)passed on this past Thursday 9/20/07. Dr Cox and the late Doctor Haley Bell Co-founded the second Black Owned Radio Station in the Country. The Carter Family of Kansas City (KPRS) were the first, however Dr. Cox and Dr. Bell were the first Blacks to obtain a “Permit to Construct” from the FCC…as they built WCHB from the ground up.
