Incident Overview
Atlanta police are searching for a man who exposed himself to a woman at the Petro Travel Center on Donald Lee Hollowell Road on Juneteenth. The incident occurred while the woman, Sunday Gray, was picking up lunch for her husband.
Traumatizing Encounter
Sunday Gray reported that was shocked and traumatized when turned around and saw a man standing behind her performing a sex act on himself. She expressed feeling embarrassed and humiliated, and now experiences distressing visuals whenever closes her eyes.
Lack of Intervention
Gray was further unsettled by the lack of intervention from the employees who witnessed the incident. Despite seeing the man’s inappropriate behavior, they did not intervene and allowed him to leave the restaurant with his order.
Husband’s Reaction
Robert Gray, Sunday’s husband, immediately notified security and went to confront the man, who had moved to another nearby gas station. Upon confronting the employees at the second location, he learned that the man had already left.
Pattern of Incidents
A female employee at the second gas station revealed that and several other women had also been victimized by the same man over the past year, but Sunday was the first to report it. Robert Gray criticized the lack of security measures that could have prevented the incident.
Response from Authorities
After the Grays reached out to the police, they were informed that investigators were in the process of obtaining a subpoena for surveillance footage of the incident. Petro’s parent company has yet to respond to inquiries about their protocols for handling such incidents.
