Rickey Smiley Show: Magic Johnson Blood Donation

The Rickey Smiley Morning Show discusses Magic Johnson donating blood. Gary With Da Tea said people need to leave Johnson alone because all he wants to do is be a kind, nice man. The former NBA star is speaking out and denies he donated blood to COVID-19 patients and underprivileged children.

Johnson recently tweeted, “I am aware of the false story circling the internet, and to be clear, I have never donated blood,” said Johnson. A rumor circulated on Twitter showing Magic Johnson having his blood drawn, but that was all it was, said Gary. The photo was taken in 2012, and it was for a documentary called “Endgame: Aids in Black America” the film showed Magic Johnson having his blood drawn at a doctor’s office, not donating blood, added the morning show host.

During a press conference in 1991, the LA Lakers legend said that he was infected with HIV, informed Gary. The announcement was a news shock for everyone. The American Red Cross bands people from donating blood if they are HIV positive even if the viral load is undetectable said Gary.

The radio host wondered where the picture of Magic Johnson getting his blood drawn came from. Gary said it is a good thing Johnson was smart, clever and able to get on top of the rumor. Rickey Smiley said it was not just the internet being ignorant and joking; now, even though Aids is still serious, they have medicine that can get him to show up negative.

Smiley said people need to stop doing “that” to Johnson because he has built many companies and employed many people. He also gives back and is active in the community. The morning show agreed that people were being “messy” and wanted to start a rumor about Johnson.
