It’s hard to believe, but 35 years have passed since Jodeci officially introduced themselves to the world with Forever My Lady, an album that would help reshape the sound, image and attitude of R&B throughout the 1990s.

To mark the milestone, UMe has released a newly remastered 35th Anniversary Edition of Jodeci’s landmark debut. The expanded release is available on 2LP black vinyl and CD, while the original album is also available digitally in Dolby Atmos for the first time.

The anniversary edition features the album’s original 13 tracks along with five bonus selections, including “Stay – A Cappella,” “Come & Talk To Me – Radio Remix,” “I’m Still Waiting – Swing Mob Radio Mix,” and “Forever My Lady – Live From Uptown MTV Unplugged/1993.”

Jodeci is also celebrating the anniversary on the road. The group announced plans for a Forever My Lady 35th Anniversary Tour, which will bring the multiplatinum R&B act to cities across the United States.

The Album That Changed Everything

Released May 28, 1991, Forever My Lady introduced DeVanté Swing, Mr. Dalvin, K-Ci and JoJo as one of the most distinctive groups of their generation.

Produced primarily by DeVanté Swing, with Al B. Sure! also contributing to the project, the album blended gospel-rooted vocals, romantic ballads and hip-hop-influenced production in a way that separated Jodeci from many of their R&B contemporaries.

The album reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart and entered the Top 20 of the Billboard 200, where it remained for 83 weeks.

Songs including “Forever My Lady,” “Come & Talk To Me” and “Stay” became defining records for the group and helped establish the chemistry that would make Jodeci one of the most influential male R&B groups of the decade.

The title track, “Forever My Lady,” spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the Top 25.

Over time, the album earned 3x-Platinum certification from the RIAA and has accumulated more than 548 million global streams.

More importantly, Forever My Lady helped establish a blueprint that would influence generations of R&B artists who followed. Jodeci brought a tougher, street-oriented visual style to contemporary R&B without sacrificing the vocal power and gospel traditions at the center of the music.

The formula worked.

Three and a half decades later, the album remains one of the defining R&B releases of the 1990s.

Jodeci’s Legacy Continues

The 35th anniversary arrives during another active period for the group.

Jodeci reunited under the management of P Music Group’s Michael Paran and joined New Edition and Charlie Wilson for The Culture Tour in 2022. The following year, the group headlined the Summer Block Party Tour alongside SWV and Dru Hill.

In 2024, Jodeci launched The Show, The After Party, The Vegas Residency at the House of Blues inside Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, with performances selling out during the run.

The group has also continued connecting with younger audiences through streaming and social media. “My Heart Belongs to U” experienced renewed attention in 2024, generating millions of social media creations and billions of cumulative views.

Jodeci now has more than 2 million monthly Spotify listeners and more than 2.7 billion global streams, demonstrating the staying power of a group whose influence continues more than three decades after its debut.

Last year, Jodeci also celebrated another milestone with the 30th Anniversary Edition of their third studio album, The Show, the After Party, the Hotel.

But it all started with Forever My Lady.

Thirty-five years later, the harmonies, the records and the attitude still hold up—and for an entire generation of R&B fans, it may be difficult to believe that the album that introduced Jodeci has officially been around for three and a half decades.
